With the launch of the Mists of Pandaria expansion there have been a few significant changes to the Leatherworking trade skill. Skinning has not changed too much and we can all rest easy at night knowing that our favorite trade skill profession is still mostly intact. Leveling leatherworking can be a tedious task so it’s a good idea to farm some leather along the way. Mobs seem to be spread out a bit in Pandaria making it a little more difficult to farm leather. On top of this Blizzard made lesser beasts non-skinnable to make it harder to farm Exotic Leather. When you see a herd of beasts usually only one or two are skinnable. Calfs don’t have any leather? Huh? Ok. Whatever.
There are a few exceptions to this rule. One of which is my favorite beast to farm for leather. The Spotted Caterpillar can be found hanging out around trees in the Townlong Steppes. They are not only easy to kill but skinnable and abundant. Whenever I am in the area I wont hesitate to cruise through the trees and kill any Spotted Caterpillar groups that I encounter. These guys are easy skins and since you’ll need a bunch to get to max level so you will want to grab some whenever you can.
Leatherworkers in Mists of Pandaria get powerful bracer enchants, as well as new types of BoP leg kits. They can make new PvP and PvE armor for both leather and mail users, as well as sell leg kits for all melee dps.
Profession Perks
There are three types of leg armor kits Leatherworkers can put on their own gear for only Eternium Thread. These kits have different stat combinations than in the past.
